Eine Fremdüberwachung stellt Materialeignung und Güte als Markteintritt sicher. Schornsteine und Abgasleitungen unterliegen besonders in Deutschland strengen Aufsichtsvorgaben. Die Abgasführung wird bauaufsichtlich nach Bundesland geregelt. Der Schornstein-Durchmesser muss zum Kesseltyp und Heizungsfabrikat passen. Eine Inbetriebnahme darf nur über das Fachhandwerk erfolgen.

Wenn Schornsteine durch nicht beheizten Dachraum geführt werden, muss eine Isolierung der Abgasleitung oder ein Schachtsystem verwendet werden. Keinesfalls darf im Schornsteinverlauf der Taupunkt unterschritten werden. Aufstellungsort und geodätische Höhe, sowie Dachfirst ist für Kaminleitungen entscheidend. Dagegen ist es unerheblich, ob glänzendes oder mattes Inox Edelstahl Verwendung findet.

Schornsteine entstammen der Idee, durch Querschnitts-Reduzierung eine Kaminsanierung zu erreichen. Im Sanierungsfall werden Schornsteine oder Abgasleitungen eingesetzt. Gemauerte Kamine können mit RAL-Farben angepassten Schornsteinen aus Kupfer saniert werden. Als Schornstein-Einsatzrohr kommen Abgasleitungen mit flexibler Rohrführung vor. Kaminleitungen werden gegen Russbrand in Edelstahl ausgeführt. Schornstein-Abgas-Führungen kommen als flexible oder starre Abgasleitung vor. Kamine nennt man Schornsteine und ihre Berufsgruppe Schornsteinfeger. Der Sprachgebrauch Rauchfang meint Abgasleitungen als Schornstein zum Kaminersatz. Wer von Schornsteinen spricht setzt auf Verbindungsleitungen in RLU und RLA Ausführung im bestehenden Kaminschacht.

Die WAC alias westa air control aka KWL ist ein Gesamt-Lüftungssystem mit zentraler Wärmerückführung als Wohnungslüftung im Ein- und Mehrfamilienhaus. Als kontrollierte Wohnungslüftung ist sie eine komfortable Lüftungsvariante mit Wärmerückgewinnung. Eine Wohnungslüftung wird nach DIN berechnet und als Komfortlüftung ausgelegt. Das Konzept der kontrollierten Wohnungslüftung KWL ist jederzeit nachrüstbar in Metall- und Kunststoffausführung.- Es gilt für Quadroflex und Westerform Rohre in runder, eckiger und ovaler Ausführung nur von Westaflex. Das Konzept Kontrollierter Wohnungslüftung ist für Mehrfamilien und Mehrgenerationen geeignet, wie es auch von Wohnungsbaugesellschaften mit KWL angeboten wird. Das Luftkanalsystem ist dort als WAC eingetragen und als Komfort Lüftung bekannt.
