Company
We design innovative ventilation, HVAC, and building systems. As a systems partner, we combine tradition with technology to create efficient solutions for buildings, industry, and mobility.
We are part of the Westa Group – an international holding company with independent subsidiaries and licensing partners worldwide.
The Group covers a broad spectrum of ventilation, air conditioning, chimney, exhaust, and filtration technology, as well as home and building services, complemented by solutions for automotive, rail, and industrial applications. This structure enables us to serve global markets with a local presence while expanding our core competencies and creating synergies in innovation, production, and sales for sustainable engineering solutions.
From Steak to Steel
Our family-owned business is characterized by constant change. Originally founded in 1933 as part of the Atlas Group, Westaflexwerk L. & F. Westerbarkey was based on a patent for flexible tubes held by brothers Leonhard and Ferdinand Westerbarkey. The initial production of steel furniture under the name “Westamöbel” was gradually replaced by the manufacture of flex tubes and eventually discontinued entirely. Exhaust pipes for industrial plants, specialty tubes for organ building, and above all, flex tubes for the fields of ventilation, heating, air conditioning, and automotive engineering laid the foundation for further development.
In particular, Leonhard and his brother Lorenz Westerbarkey drove forward the design and construction of our own machines for manufacturing special tube cross-sections. From an early stage, our innovations shaped the automotive industry – with ventilation hoses for the VW Beetle and mufflers for the Porsche 911 – and laid the foundation for our expertise in ventilation, air conditioning, and building services engineering. Our history is marked by continuous product innovation and constant adaptation to global customer needs. Following the sale of Atlas Handelsgesellschaft, a group of companies in the meat processing and marketing sector, and our withdrawal from the manufacture of chimney pipes, our focus today is on ventilation components with acoustic properties. Over time, we have established new companies – ERO Stainless Steel Pipe Technology and Carbonit Filter Technology – with their own production facilities, which have expanded our corporate group.
We are an owner-managed family business and are now in our fourth generation of leadership.
